CTV News has declared Mark Carney’s Liberals have won enough seats in the federal election to form a minority government. After the dust of the initial poll results rush settled, all but three Calgary ridings were declared wins for the Conservative Party. Every other southern Alberta riding was also Conservative blue. The winners of Calgary Confederation, Calgary McKnight and Calgary Skyview were not declared on election night. A winner has not yet been declared in Calgary Confederation, Calgary McKnight and Calgary Skyview, as of midnight. Liberal candidate Corey Hogan led Calgary Confederation, while Conservatives Dalwinder Gill and Amanpreet Gill led Calgary McKnight and Calgary Skyview, respectively. An Alberta political scientist said he’s interested to see how Alberta’s United Conservative government interacts with the new Liberal government. McLean said despite the Liberal party forming government, dealing with a minority government is “better” than a Liberal majority. “Take a look at the number of seats we’ve increased by, it looks like about over 30 seats right now,” McLean said. “I’m pretty pleased with that result, we’re getting more and more representation across Canada and that’s important for the growth of our party and for the growth of our message across Canada about building a better Canada going forward.” Incumbent George Chahal, the Liberal candidate for Calgary McKnight, spoke to supporters on Monday night, with his race still up in the air. “Tonight, we are still waiting on the final results, and this election was much tighter than anticipated,” Chahal said. “Once all the polls are in, I will make a formal statement.” Up-to-date results can be found on CTV News’ live election results map. 11 p.m. MDT: Conservatives claim Calgary Centre After hours of back and forth between the Conservatives and the Liberals, the Tories took Calgary Centre. The CTV News Decision Desk has declared Greg McLean will once again represent the riding in Ottawa. McLean, who was first elected in 2019, defeated Liberal candidate Lindsay Luhnau. Conservative candidate Jeremy Nixon and Liberal candidate Corey Hogan have been neck and neck over the past hour, as the leader in the race has flipped back and forth multiple times as more results come in. The seat was previously held by Conservative Len Webber, who chose not to run in this election. Winners have also not yet been declared in Calgary McKnight and Calgary Skyview. Liberal candidates in Calgary Confederation and Calgary Centre were leading for some time, but the Conservatives, Greg McLean in Centre and Jeremy Nixon in Confederation, have since taken the lead back. Brendan Ellis, CTV News Calgary digital producer 9:30 p.m. MDT: Four Calgary races still close Four ridings in Calgary are awaiting election calls, but they appear to be close races. As of 9:30 p.m. MDT, Liberal candidates were leading in Calgary Centre and Calgary Confederation. Both would be gains for the Liberals, with the seats previously being held by the Conservatives. In Calgary Centre, Liberal Lindsay Luhnau was leading Conservative incumbent Greg McLean. Then in Confederation, Liberal Corey Hogan was leading Conservative Jeremy Nixon. Confederation was previously held by Conservative Len Webber, who chose not to run in this election. Two other races, Calgary Skyview and Calgary McKnight, were led by new Conservative candidates. In Skyview, which just started reporting votes after 9 p.m., was led by Amanpreet Gill. Gill was ahead of Liberal Hafeez Malik. Brendan Ellis, CTV News Calgary digital producer 9:08 p.m. MDT: Calgary East, Calgary Shepard stay Conservative blue Calgary East is also a win for the Conservatives. CTV News has declared the riding as going to Jasraj Hallan. He was elected to Calgary Forest Lawn in 2019, and then Calgary East in 2021. He also ran provincially for the UCP in 2019, losing in Calgary-McCall. And shortly after, Calgary Shepard was also declared as going to the Conservatives. Tom Kmiec takes that riding again, first elected in 2015 and having held it since. Pat Kelly has been declared the winner by CTV News. He was previously the Conservative MP in the riding of Calgary Rocky Ridge, serving there for three terms from 2015 on. Polls in the Mountain Time Zone were scheduled to close at 7:30 p.m. Elections Canada workers can start counting ballots cast on Monday after polls close. Due to high turnout during advance voting, counting of those ballots can begin two hours before polls close to help speed up the reporting of results, according to Elections Canada. According to Mount Royal University political scientist Duane Bratt, they are all up for grabs. “I think four of them are in play.
