Officials with the City of Calgary have announced who will be performing on Canada Day and where people can gather to watch fireworks. The city will host family-friendly events throughout Calgary on July 1. Festivities will take place at Prince’s Island Park, Eau Claire Plaza, Sien Lok Park, the Municipal Building, Harry Hays green space, East Village and The Confluence Historic Site and Parkland. This year, the main stage for celebrations will be located on Prince’s Island Park. Musical performances start at 2 p.m. with a lineup that includes Michela Sheedy, Micah Sage, Jamie Fine, Kardinal Offishall and Tia Wood, leading into a high-energy finale from Walk off the Earth, who will serve as this year’s headliner. Canada Day celebrations then conclude with a fireworks show above Stampede Park at 11 p.m. Where to watch fireworks The city says the primary public viewing area for fireworks will be the parking lot and green space surrounding Max Bell Centre, located at 1001 Barlow Tr. S.E. There will be no other activities on site throughout the day to keep the area clear for crowds in the evening. Officials say there will be portable restrooms, as well as additional garbage cans and recycling bins. “Parking at Max Bell Centre is limited,” the city warned in a Thursday news release. “Attendees are encouraged to plan ahead and consider walking or taking transit, with Franklin LRT Station and Barlow/Max Bell LRT Station both within walking distance of the viewing area.” There will be a free Canada Day shuttle running continuously on July 1 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Eau Claire and the East Village, with service approximately every 15 minutes.
