Elections Calgary has released the results of a recount requested by Sonya Sharp after losing the city’s 2025 mayoral election by a narrow margin. The results show Jeromy Farkas elected as mayor with 91,112 votes — 41 more votes than originally thought — and Sonya Sharp coming in second place with 90,496 votes — six more than originally counted. Overall, the change boosts Farkas’ lead over Sharp from 581 votes to 616 votes. “I reached out to Coun. Sonya Sharp and congratulated her and her team on a strong campaign,” Farkas said in a statement released Tuesday. “I expressed my hope that Calgarians will continue to benefit from her commitment to public service.” The official swearing-in ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 7 p.m. Close to 350,000 Calgarians cast ballots last Monday, a voter turnout of 39.04 per cent.
