Parachutes for Pets needs your help after staff say cash and donations meant for clients were stolen in a recent robbery. Melissa David, the founder and executive director of Parachute for Pets, says a woman came into their pet advocacy centre along 1A Street Southwest with a dog she claimed was in distress which David said is not unusual. “She told our front desk volunteer that her dog was in crisis, and she needed help right away. Our volunteer ran to get some help just down the hallway and in that time, she had taken our donation box, some items behind the desk and a few other items and bolted.” David says no one was hurt but the stolen items and a small amount of money was taken. “We have petsgiving coming up which is an initiative we run every year so that we can help families struggling so they are able to have a Thanksgiving dinner, but we want their pets to have full bellies as well so the majority of it was going to our petsgiving pet food drive.” David says the community support has been amazing. “We’ve had people drop off donuts and called to make sure we are OK. Parachutes for Pets was launched in 2019 to provide accessible programs and resources to low-income individuals to improve their pets’ health and welfare.
