Calgary’s Nepali-Canadian community hosted a vigil Saturday to remember those killed in the flash flood disaster. It happened last Wednesday, when a massive glacier collapsed in the Himalayas, triggering a landslide and flash flood. The death toll now stands at more than 675, with thousands still unaccounted for. Supporters prayed and lit candles, mourning the significant loss as families wait for answers. And as the recovery operation continues, some say we need to help the survivors. “Let’s look at those people who are alive,” said Dinesh Koirala, a Nepalese-Canadian who lives in Calgary. “We need to make the shelter for them. We need to provide food for them, and we need to provide drinking water for them. “I’m worried about it,” he said. “After that, then we come to the development of those damaged infrastructure.” Thirty-two Canadian citizens and permanent residents are missing.
