An offer for case resolution is in hand for a man accused of threatening the life of Prime Minister Mark Carney. Jamie Da Costa’s lawyer says the right deal will address “the needs of our client and the protection of the community.” Da Costa, 31, appeared in court again Thursday via CCTV. His lawyer, Adriano Iovinelli, was in the courtroom in person and said he’d heard from special prosecutor William Tran on this matter and other, unrelated matters. “He provided a rather lengthy early case resolution that has to be reviewed,” Iovinelli told court. Iovinelli asked for an adjournment to Oct. 7, which Justice Paul Mason granted. Outside court, Iovinelli told CTV News the resolution offered to Da Costa “is going to include some type of reports.” “There are either mental-health or addiction issues,” Iovinelli said. “So, a lot of (what happens next) is going to depend on the outcomes of these reports.” Meantime, Da Costa remains in custody at the Calgary Remand Centre. Da Costa’s matters Da Costa was arrested by the RCMP and charged with “uttering a threat to Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney to cause death.” The alleged threats against Carney, and members of the prime minister’s family, are said to have occurred in a YouTube video. Da Costa also faces a number of other charges not related to the alleged incident involving Carney. Those matters involve charges of extortion, criminal harassment, uttering threats to cause death, mischief (damage over $5,000) and being disguised with intent. The video A video appearing to encourage Canadians to travel to Ottawa and commit an act of violence against Canada’s leader and members of his family was posted on a YouTube channel registered to a Jamie Da Costa. The video was dated July 25. Court documents say the alleged incident occurred between July 25 and 26. Mounties have said they became involved on July 28. As of last week, the channel, when accessed, “isn’t available.” “The channel was taken down for violating our community guidelines,” a representative from YouTube Canada said via email.
