There was little doubt where local author Alix Kelinda would base her first novel—Calgary. “This is my home. This is where my family is, and I really wanted to give it a nice, authentic setting that meant a lot to me. So, you’ll notice lots of mentions of the Rocky Mountains in the distance or our chaotic weather. It’ll be cold one day and beautiful the next,” Kelinda told CTV News. The born-and-raised Calgarian is celebrating the publication of her first book—The Christmas Curse. The romantic comedy sees two very different characters living next door to each other in a Calgary neighbourhood. Bradley loves Christmas and Devra loathes it, but in genuine rom-com fashion, the couple soon develop feelings for each other. If it sounds like ideal fodder for a holiday season film or TV show, Kelinda admits she’s open to the idea. “I would love to! I feel like there’s definitely some aesthetics that I could just picture already as a movie when I was writing it.”
