Ten people – most of them from the Calgary area – are celebrating a $100K win on a Lotto Max ticket. The friends and former coworkers won their prize on the April 28 draw with a ticket bought at the Shell on Fireside Gate in Cochrane. The group is comprised of four Cochrane residents, three Calgarians, two people from Airdrie and one from Victoria, B.C. “We’ve had subscriptions for years, and I managed it for our work team when we all were working together,” said Susan Crittenden. “We started buying tickets together years ago—we all used to be colleagues.” Crittenden says she discovered the win one night by checking the ticket on the Lotto Spot app. “When I saw those zeroes on my phone I didn’t believe it,” she said. “I closed the app and went back in again.” After texting the group to tell them, Crittenden says she got a call from another member questioning if it was a scam. “I said, ‘No Doreen.’ She said, ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe it,’” Crittenden said “I have to say it’s nice to win as a group—nowadays everyone can use a little extra cash!” Crittenden says everyone’s plans for the money is different, but she has a trip planned for August. Others also have trips planed, one plans to pay off their car and some plan to tuck the money away for a rainy day.
