Another First Nations group has come out against new coal mining projects in Alberta. The Blood Tribe sent a letter to its members saying it would oppose new developments. The Nation says it hasn’t been consulted in recent coal mining decisions made by the province. Recently, the province announced new regulations on coal mining that would not apply to the proposed Grassy Mountain coal project. Later in January, the province said it was lifting its moratorium on coal exploration in the Eastern Slopes. In the letter, Chief Plaited Hair said the province showed a complete disregard for Treaty rights.
