Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says Canada is struggling with U.S. President Donald Trump’s “erratic decision making” that’s proving to be a challenge in tariff negotiations. She made the comments during in call-in radio show on Saturday, when she was asked by a listener about whether Albertans and Canadians can trust the leader. Smith said tariff talks are difficult to navigate. “He was talking a few years ago about how the (Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement) was the best agreement ever and now he’s talking about how it’s not,” Smith said. “That’s what we’re dealing with – there’s some erratic decision-making and we’re having to respond to it.” She also said the lack of clear leadership at the federal level is a problem. “(Trump) keeps on putting additional trade irritants on the table but we can’t talk about those until we get into the full context of a renegotiation of that agreement. And we can’t do that until we’ve got a government with a mandate.” Smith did add she’s happy that all the tariff talk has put the discussion of pipelines back on the table.
