Alberta Premier Danielle Smith admits to challenges with Trump

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is worried about how well tariff talks will move ahead with how 'erratic' President Donald Trump can be in negotiations.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says Canada is struggling with U.S. President Donald Trump’s “erratic decision making” that’s proving to be a challenge in tariff negotiations.

She made the comments during in call-in radio show on Saturday, when she was asked by a listener about whether Albertans and Canadians can trust the leader.

Smith said tariff talks are difficult to navigate.

“He was talking a few years ago about how the (Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement) was the best agreement ever and now he’s talking about how it’s not,” Smith said.

“That’s what we’re dealing with – there’s some erratic decision-making and we’re having to respond to it.”

She also said the lack of clear leadership at the federal level is a problem.

“(Trump) keeps on putting additional trade irritants on the table but we can’t talk about those until we get into the full context of a renegotiation of that agreement. And we can’t do that until we’ve got a government with a mandate.”

Smith did add she’s happy that all the tariff talk has put the discussion of pipelines back on the table.
