Red Deer’s Molly Simpson got into BMX racing when she was 10 years old. Simpson’s cousin was into the sport and she says she wanted to give it a go as well. “I had that inspiration,” she said. “Then, also, just driving past the BMX track when I was younger in the back of the car, looking at it like, ‘What is that?’ I was like, ‘Hey Dad, we’ve got to try this.’ “I just love the adrenaline rush. I love anything that spikes that up.” Overall champ Simpson is an accomplished rider, and this year was her best. The 22-year-old had 11 wins and capped her season off by winning the 2025 USA BMX Pro Women’s overall championship. Simpson says it’s an awesome feeling. “I’ve said this in a few interviews before, that it feels good to win the overall American series when you’re not even American,” she said with a laugh. “I have so much respect for my competitors, and most of them are really good friends, but that does feel pretty good, you know, stealing the throne there.” This was a big win for Canada. The last woman to accomplish that feat was Samantha Cools, who did it 20 years ago. “It’s just crazy,” said Simpson. “When they said it’s been 20 years, I couldn’t believe it. I’m 22. It feels good, and I’m definitely just grateful. I’ve had an awesome season, and it’s been great.” Olympics Simpson has already reached one of her goals in life. That was to be an Olympian. She competed for Canada in the 2024 Summer Games in France and finished fifth overall in the Women’s BMX. Simpson says that left her wanting more. “I’m going for it,” she said. “I’m going for gold. We have two years, pretty much, until the next Olympics in Los Angeles, so it’s starting to get to crunch time again.”
