After a cool and gloomy start to September we are finally getting a warm weather weekend! It couldn’t come at a better time too with this being the last weekend of summer before astronomical fall begins on Tuesday. We experienced the beginning of this warm weather trend on Wednesday when a ridge of high pressure began to develop over western Canada and that ridge is really going to settle in this weekend resulting in lots of sunshine and temperatures in the mid-twenties. The peak heat will be on Monday with a forecast high of 26C for Calgary. The first couple of days of fall will continue to be above seasonal as well but with more clouds in the afternoon as the jet stream adjusts bringing cooler air into southern Alberta. However, we are already starting to see signs that change is on the way for Alberta, with some areas just northwest of Calgary under a yellow-level frost advisory as some overnight lows approach close to freezing temperatures. Long range models suggest our next round of wet weather could arrive next weekend, but overall temperatures appear to remain seasonal (around 17C for Calgary) for the rest of the month.
