There’s no shortage of events for Calgarians to attend in and around the city’s downtown core this Canada Day. The Canada Day Main Stage Show will be held at Prince’s Island Park. Scheduled musical acts include Micah Sage, Jamie Fine, Kardinal Offishall, Tia Wood and Walk off the Earth. The Canada Day Main Stage Show runs from 2 to 9:30 p.m. The Confluence will host an event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., including an Indigenous artisans market and Indigenous teaching spaces, as well as “inflatable soccer, luge, biathlon and ski jumping,” and food vendors. There will be an event at the municipal building and Sien Lok Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be an event at Eau Claire Plaza from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. And there will be an event at the East Village from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Canada Day fireworks will launch from Stampede Park around 11 p.m. The city says the best place to view the fireworks will be from the Max Bell Centre. Parking will be limited, and the city recommends walking or taking transit. The city says on-site viewing at Stampede Park won’t be available. The city also says vehicle access into west Ramsay will be limited. More information can be found at calgary.ca/CanadaDay. “Calgarians and visitors are invited to gather at locations across downtown to celebrate Canada Day,” the city said in a release Monday morning. “This year’s free and family-friendly celebration features an Indigenous spotlight and powwow, live music and will end with a fireworks show above Stampede Park. “Other attractions throughout the day include the Cultural Carousel, performances, face painting, food trucks and more.” Transit, parking and road closures Calgary Transit will operate buses, CTrains and On Demand on a Sunday level of service on Canada Day. Free shuttle service will be available between Eau Claire and the East Village on Canada Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The city says buses will run “every 15 minutes, with stops at Sien Lok Park and along the RiverWalk.” More information can be found at calgary.ca/CanadaDay. Parking in on-street ParkPlus zones will be free on Canada Day. Calgary Parking surface lots and Lot 24 (Werklund Centre Parkade) will operate at weekend rates. All other Calgary Parking parkades will be free. Regular rates will be in effect at partner lots. The Calgary Parking Contact Centre and Municipal Impound Lot will be closed on Canada Day. The following roads will be restricted or closed to make way for Canada Day celebrations: In Eau Claire, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Barclay Parade S.W. from 2 Avenue S.W. will be restricted for most vehicles. The city says Sheraton guests will still be allowed. In the East Village, from 6 a.m. to midnight, 8 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 4 Street S.E. to 6 Street S.E., 6 Street S.E. will be closed from 8 Avenue S.E. to 9 Avenue S.E. and 5 Street S.E. will be closed from 7 Avenue S.E. to 9 Avenue S.E. Tee times can be booked at calgary.ca/golf. Landfills and Eco Centres will be open on Canada Day. More information can be found at calgary.ca/landfill. All arenas, indoor pools and fitness centres, the Southland and Village Square leisure centres, Maxwell Soccer Centre, the North Mount Pleasant and Wildflower arts centres and the Animal Services Centre will be closed on Canada Day. Registered programs and swimming lessons will not run, and drop-in program schedules will not be offered.
