The number of hotels in Alberta featured in the Michelin Guide has grown by two. While many may be familiar with the Michelin “star” designation – which celebrates excellence in restaurants – Michelin also began awarding “keys” in 2023. The keys are granted to hotels that offer the world’s most exceptional stays. Michelin says the hotels are judged in five categories including architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting. The guide expanded to include Canadian hotels last year. 2025 winners Michelin unveiled the winners of its 2025 keys on Wednesday. In total, 2,457 hotels across the world were recognized, including 38 in Canada. Canada had two Three Key hotels (an extraordinary stay), seven Two Key hotels (an exceptional stay) and 29 One Key hotels (a very special stay). Last year, there were four hotels in Alberta on the guide, but this year there are six, including: All of the Alberta hotels received a One Key designation. The Dorian, the only Calgary property in the guide, sits in the 500 block of Fifth Ave. S.W. This is the second time it has received a Michelin Key. “This achievement belongs entirely to our team,” said general manager Ian Jones in a news release. “Every associate at The Dorian has poured their heart, creativity, and commitment into making our hotel a place that is bold, stylish, and truly exactly like nothing else. “This recognition is not just about the bricks, the design, or the views — it’s also about the people who deliver memorable experiences to every guest, every day,” he added. “We are proud to once again represent Calgary on the global stage.”
