A new wallboard manufacturing plant in Wheatland County, opened by CGC Inc., is expected to create nearly 100 jobs and strengthen construction supply chains across western Canada. The company says the $210 million facility will expand manufacturing capacity of Sheetrock brand wallboard, which is used in housing, commercial and infrastructure projects. “This modern, sustainable manufacturing hub will help ensure builders have access to the materials they need to build the homes and infrastructure Canada depends on, while supporting long-term jobs and economic growth in the region,” said Steve Youngblut, president of CGC Inc. The plant broke ground on 214 acres just north of Carseland, Alta., in 2024. CGC Inc. says the new plant will reduce carbon emissions by 20 per cent, reduce water usage by 25 per cent with zero manufacturing waste going to a landfill. The site also features on-site solar generation which helps reduce its environmental footprint. Alberta Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Joseph Schow says this investment shows that there is opportunity for business in Alberta. “Our landscape, low taxes and regulatory environment create a province ripe for investment,” Schow said. “Alberta’s government is proud to support investments that strengthen our manufacturing sector, create jobs and help rural communities thrive.” A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon.
