Calgary police are investigating another extortion case in the city, where a business owner, along with their friends and family, were threatened with physical harm. On May 5, a business in Saddle Ridge was contacted by an unknown person who demanded money. Police said the caller threatened the business owner, their friends and family, during the exchange. The victim later contacted police, who investigated and ended up arresting four men on May 28. Two of the suspects, Sandeep Singh, 30, and Amandeep Mallhi, 39, have each been charged with extortion and possession of the proceeds of crime. Police said the latest charges are the direct result of focused police work. “Each arrest reinforces our commitment to protecting Calgarians and sends a clear message to those involved in these crimes. Extortion will not be tolerated in our city and those responsible will be pursued, arrested and held accountable for their actions,” said Supt. Jeff Bell of the Calgary Police Service’s criminal operations and intelligence division. Since April 2025, there have been 46 extortion-related incidents in the city. Nineteen of those involved shootings at homes, businesses and individuals.
