Two Calgary residents have been charged following a break-and-enter on an oil lease site west of Drumheller. On Tuesday around 11 a.m., Drumheller RCMP officers responded to a 911 call about a break-and-enter in progress on the oil-lease site in Kneehill County. Officers were told that two suspects were loading property into a dark coloured mini-van at the site. The suspects left the site before the police arrived, but they ran into them in their vehicle driving on Highway 575 near Range Road 212A. Two suspects were arrested and taken into custody. A search of a green Mazda van revealed a large amount of copper wire, tools, fuel and more that police say were stolen. Further investigation revealed that both suspects were wanted on outstanding warrants and both were bound by prior Release Order conditions. A 38-year-old Calgary woman and 48-year-old Calgary man were jointly charged with break-and-enter-and did commit, mischief over $5,000, theft under $5,000, fail to comply with a release order, and possession of break-in instruments. The man was additionally charged with three counts of failure to comply with a release order, possession of property obtained by crime; and operating a motor vehicle with an expired licence plate. The woman was also arrested for 16 outstanding warrants, including seven counts of failure to comply with a court order, four counts of failure to attend court, possession of stolen property, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fraudulent concealment, and driving a motor vehicle when unauthorized. She was also arrested on two counts of failure to comply with a court order and failure to attend court. Both were remanded into custody. The woman is scheduled to appear in court in Calgary on Jan. 31 while the man will appear in court Feb. 3.
