A popular carmaker has recalled thousands of trucks in Canada due to an issue that could affect the vehicle’s rear-view camera. Transport Canada first published the recall notice last week for 12,179 Toyota Tundra trucks from the years 2024 and 2025. “Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause the rear-view camera image to freeze or not to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse,” the department said on its website. “Canadian regulations require the rear-view image to display when the vehicle is reversing.” The recall affects both Tundra and Tundra hybrid models that are equipped with a panoramic view monitor system, Transport Canada noted. “A rear-view camera image that doesn’t display correctly could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash,” it said. A similar recall is being conducted in the U.S., Toyota said in a release on its website on Friday, where around 162,000 Tundra and Tundra hybrid models are impacted. The recall comes a few months after Toyota issued a similar notice in October of last year that flagged potential display issues for rear-view cameras on Tundra and Sequoia models between the years of 2022 and 2025. That recall impacted 32,733 vehicles in Canada, according to Transport Canada. For those affected by the latest recall, Toyota says it will notify owners by mail, advising them to take their vehicle to a dealership, where their vehicle’s “parking assist electronic control unit software” will be updated.
