Land Rover issues recall for thousands of SUVs due to safety concerns

Land Rover has announced a recall for more than 14,000 vehicles in Canada due to a safety risk which could lead to a loss of power to the wheels, increasing the possibility of a crash.

The recall notice, first posted April 17 on Transport Canada and later updated on April 24, has noted that on certain SUV vehicles, the DC/DC converter could fail.

As a result, the battery would not charge, and a “stop safely electrical fault detected” warning message would be displayed.

“If this happens, and you continue to drive the vehicle, there could be a loss of power to the wheels and/or the vehicle’s lights could turn off,” the recall warned.

“A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Exterior lights that don’t work may make the vehicle less visible to others and increase the risk of a crash.”

Vehicles affected by this recall include:

• Land Rover Defender models manufactured between 2020 to 2024
• Land Rover Discovery models manufactured between 2021 to 2024
• Land Rover Discovery Sport models manufactured in 2020
• Land Rover Range Rover models manufactured between 2020 to 2024
• Land Rover Range Rover Sport models manufactured between 2019 to 2024
• Land Rover Range Rover Velar models manufactured between 2021 to 2024
• Land Rover Range Rover Evoque models manufactured between 2020 and 2023

The notice added that this recall only affected “mild hybrid electric vehicles.”

Customers of the affected vehicles will be notified by the automaker via email, while corrective actions for the recall are still under development.
