Hyundai is recalling 5,616 vehicles in Canada due to a faulty check valve in the purge control system, which increases the risk of fuel leak and causing a fire. “On certain vehicles, the check valve for the purge control system could wear and cause the fuel tank to expand,” the notice states. “As a result, the fuel tank could contact hot components and fuel could leak.” Impacted vehicles are the 2020–23 Hyundai Sonata and only certain vehicles equipped with a 1.6 L turbocharged engine are affected. This recall replaces recall no. 2025637 (Hyundai recall no. C0566), and vehicles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. According to the recall notice, Hyundai will notify and advise owners by mail to take the affected vehicle to a dealership to have the check valve inspected and potentially replaced, and to update the electronic control unit (ECU) software. The dealer will also inspect the fuel tank and surrounding components and repair them if necessary. In the last two months, Hyundai has also recalled almost 44,000 vehicles in Canada for faulty seatbelts and more than 13,000 vehicles for a faulty terminal cover on the starter motor of certain vehicles.
