Hyundai has issued a safety recall affecting nearly 44,000 Hyundai Palisade SUVs in Canada due to a potential defect that could prevent side curtain airbags from deploying properly in a crash. Transport Canada classifies this as a “Compliance Mfr” recall, meaning the defect was identified and reported by the manufacturer to meet federal safety standards. Owners are encouraged to check whether their vehicle is included by contacting Hyundai or visiting the official recall lookup service. A similar safety issue has emerged in the U.S., where Hyundai is also moving a recall to a much larger number of its vehicle due to airbag deployment concerns. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Hyundai announced a recall of nearly 569,000 Palisade SUVs because the side curtain bags for third-row occupants may deploy improperly in a crash. The NHTSA said the affected air bags were supplied to Hyundai by Sweden’s Autoliv - the world’s largest producer of air bags and seatbelts.
