VANCOUVER — Teck Resources Corp. says workers at its Highland Valley Copper mine began a strike Saturday. The mining company says operations are continuing at a reduced capacity, but that the effect on production will depend on the duration of the job action. The striking workers are represented by the United Steelworkers. The union said last week that the company’s proposal continued to fall short of members’ expectations, while other concession demands remained on the table. USW Local 7619 represents about 1,200 workers at Highland Valley Copper. Both the union and the company have said that they are committed to reaching an agreement. --- This report by The Canadian Press was first published Oct. 26, 2026.
