‘Stop using’: Peloton issues recall for nearly 900K bikes in Canada, U.S. over seat issue

Nearly 900,000 Peloton bikes, including 45,000 in Canada, are being recalled over faulty seat posts that could break and cause falls.

Nearly 45,000 Peloton bikes in Canada are affected by a recall over faulty seat posts that can break and detach during use, creating a fall and injury hazard.

While there are no reports of incidents in Canada, there have been at least two that resulted in injuries in the U.S., where a similar recall is impacting approximately 833,000 of the company’s digital exercise bicycles.

“Consumers should stop using the recalled exercise bikes and contact Peloton for a free replacement seat post that can be self-installed,” Health Canada said in its recall notice.

The recall involves seat posts on Peloton Original Series Bike+ units with the model number “PL02” and serial numbers that begin with the letter “T.” You can locate the bike’s serial number inside the front fork, behind the front fork or behind the flywheel. Affected bikes were sold from 2020 through April 2025.

Approximately 108,000 Peloton bikes were recalled in Canada in 2023 over a similar seat post issue. This also led to the recall of more than two million bikes in the U.S., where there were at least 13 reports of injuries including “a fractured wrist, lacerations and bruises.”

Peloton sells stationary exercise bikes with touchscreens that allow users to stream live and recorded fitness classes. In August, the New York City-based company announced that it was cutting six per cent of its global workforce amid expectations that ongoing tariffs would cost the company around US$65 million.
