OTTAWA - The case of a Roman Catholic bishop facing child pornography charges has been put off until the new year.

Raymond Lahey was not in court today when his lawyer requested more time to prepare his case.

Lahey's next court appearances has been scheduled for Jan. 13.

He was charged in September with possessing and importing child pornography -- 10 days after being detained by customs officers at Ottawa airport after arriving on a flight from Britain.

Police say they found hundreds of files and dozens of videos on Lahey's laptop, many of them showing young males engaged in sex acts.

The 69-year-old Lahey -- who has stepped down as bishop of the diocese in Antigonish, N.S. -- has been staying with other priests in Ottawa since being granted bail Oct. 1.
