If there was any doubt Justin Bieber has taken the pop world by storm, the 17-year-old heartthrob just hit a musical milestone – edging out Lady Gaga to become owner of the most-watched channel on streaming video website YouTube.

Bieber, whose new Christmas album was released on Tuesday, is officially the most popular artist on YouTube.

His official Vevo YouTube channel surged by 95 million views in the past month alone, pushing his official corner of YouTube over the two billion hits mark.

Lady Gaga was the first musical artist to garner one billion views one year ago, in October 2010.

Bieber's YouTube channel, which has been around since September 2009, allows ‘Beliebers' to watch an assortment of his songs, including ‘Under the Mistletoe,' a new track from his Christmas album.

The teenage crooner was discovered on the video-sharing site in 2008 by Scooter Braun, who later became his manager.

Bieber had posted dozens of homemade videos of himself singing songs from artists like Usher, Ne-Yo and Steven Wonder on YouTube where he racked up more than 10 million views from word-of-mouth alone.

The Canadian singing sensation is also a prolific tweeter. With more than 13.9 million Twitter followers, Bieber regularly pays tribute to his fans by praising them on the social network.

He tweeted: "I love my fans and I love music. thank u 4 helping me share my dream with all of u. proud of this album. hope u like it."

The other artists in YouTube's top five most popular are Rihanna, Eminem and Shakira.
