The whole world commemorated a country music legend on Friday, including several communities and organizations in Simcoe County. Sept. 25 was declared Dolly Day, as the date written out in numerical form is 9-2-5, an homage to Dolly Parton’s hit titled “9 to 5.” Here’s how Simcoe County celebrated Imagination Library Barrie-Innisfil The Imagination Library Barrie-Innisfil encouraged community members to champion literacy and help children learn to read through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program the singer started in honour of her father who couldn’t read or write. it gives community members free, high-quality books to families every month for the first five years of a child’s life. Erika’s Bakery Erika’s Bakery in Lake of Bays donated 9.25 per cent of its total sales to the Imagination Library Lake of Bays. It also had several specials on the menu that Dolly would approve of like homestyle chicken pot pie with a flaky biscuit along with pink donuts for desserts. If any brave souls belted out a Dolly tune, they got a free coffee or hot beverage. Blueberry Moon Blueberry Moon, a downtown Barrie store, offered a Storytime and special registration for the Imagination Library. The community certainly made it clear they will always love Dolly Parton.
