Just as shoppers were trying to get their last-minute Christmas gifts, a jewellery store in a popular Barrie, Ont., mall was reportedly robbed. Authorities say it happened just after 2 p.m. at the Georgian Mall, located at the intersection of Bayfield Street and Livingstone Street East in Barrie. Pepper spray may have been discharged, and a hammer was allegedly used to smash display cases, according to police. Viewer-obtained footage shows multiple suspects in dark clothing targeting the Charm Diamond Centre located inside the mall on the lower level. Authorities confirmed that five suspects are now in custody, and police believe there are no additional people involved. Police say they have recovered the vehicle linked to the afternoon incident. Shortly after the event, mall workers informed CTV News that they asked shoppers to evacuate. Police are advising the public to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing. Barrie Fire is also assisting at the scene.
