3 men charged with allegedly stealing way too much butter

It all started Sunday, when an off-duty loss prevention officer allegedly saw three men take several containers of ghee (type of butter) from an east-end Owen Sound grocery store.

Police say the men quickly left the store and drove to another shop nearby.

The same off-duty loss prevention officer happened to attend the store and recognized the alleged suspects.

Concerned the men would also steal from that store, the officer contacted the Owen Sound Police Service.

Police say officers arrived just as the men were attempting to slip away in their car.

They were reportedly found to have taken $1,000 worth of butter and almost $300 worth of ghee.

Two men from Brampton, aged 24 and 21, as well as a 21-year-old man from Caledon, each face charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

All three of the accused are scheduled to make a court appearance in Owen Sound in March.
