The Town of Huntsville has completed a lengthy investigation into a cybersecurity attack that resulted in the leak of sensitive personal identifiable information. Officials confirmed that the incident detected in early March impacted the town’s network, software, and systems, including personal data. As a response, the town immediately brought its systems offline to limit exposure and acquired cybersecurity experts to investigate. “Individuals whose sensitive personal information was included in the compromised data, and for whom the town has sufficient contact information, are being contacted by the Town of Huntsville directly,” said the town in a Monday release. If contacted, officials say the communications will not request any personally identifiable information, including financial information. “We understand how concerning it may be to learn that your information has been compromised. We are making every effort to raise awareness in the community to ensure individuals are informed and can take the appropriate next steps,” said Denise Corry, CAO of the Town of Huntsville. People who have previously shared sensitive information with the Town, Muskoka Heritage Place, the Algonquin Theatre, or Huntsville Public Library are advised to follow the precautions outlined here.
