School buses cancelled across Simcoe County as snow moves in Friday

All school buses and vans across Simcoe County have been cancelled Friday due to expected snowfall and strong winds moving into the region.

Environment Canada says conditions could worsen throughout the day, with total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres by Friday night.

Winds may gust between 50 and 70 kilometres per hour, creating areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility on roads.

School transportation officials cancelled buses early Friday as a precaution, citing the risk of hazardous travel conditions for students and drivers.

Schools do remain open for students who can safely make their own way to class.

Conditions outside are expected to change through the day. The national weather agency says temperatures are expected to rise somewhat in the afternoon before dropping again later in the evening.
