The Adjala-Tosorontio, Ont. man accused of dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm is back in custody following new allegations of breaching a release order. Police allege Dan Richie, 35, was in breach of strict release conditions in May when he was found violating his house arrest and driving ban – while in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Police said previously violated a release order in September 2024 when he failed to notify officers of an address change. He was arrested in February 2025 and released following a bail hearing in March under strict conditions that included a GPS ankle monitor and pledge of $75,000 by his mother to serve as his surety. Police alleged Richie may have been trying to flee. Richie is accused of driving 173 km/h with his five kids in the car before running a stop sign the morning of September 23, 2023, along Concession Road 9 in Clearview Township. The crash killed 31-year-old Katie Marshall and her two dogs and injured her husband, who was flown by air ambulance to Toronto with serious injuries. The couple was on their way to feed horses at her parents’ farm in New Lowell that morning when police said they were hit near the intersection with 3/4 Sunnidale sideroad. Marshall worked for years as a security guard at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie. Richie was supposed to appear in a Collingwood courtroom last week to confirm preliminary hearing dates set for late July and early August. Instead, Richie was back behind bars in Chatham-Kent facing the new charges. A different lawyer, Fariborz Davoudi, represented Richie Friday morning in Chatham-Kent and inquired about bail. Davoudi confirmed to CTV News he is Richie’s lawyer for the most recent charges. Davoudi called the situation for all involved “a tragedy.” Richie remains in custody tonight ahead of his next appearance on Thursday. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
