CTV News Election Desk declares Steve Clarke as the winner for the mayoral election in the City of Orillia. Clarke earned a total of 7,569 votes, 81.75 per cent of the total 9,332 ballots casted. Clarke was elected as mayor of Orillia for the first time in 2014 and served until 2022. In May, out-going mayor Don McIsaac announced he would not be running again for the position as the head of council. In the absence of McIsaac’s name on the ballot, term councillors Janet-Lynne Durnford, Whitney Smith joined Steve Clarke and stepped up to run for the seat. In August, Durnford officially withdrew from the race, leaving voters with the choice of Smith or Clarke. For a recap of election results, visit our elections update article.
