What started as a traffic stop for faulty plates led to a lengthy list of offence notices for a truck driver and company. Provincial Police officers stopped a truck on Highway 9 in Caledon, just before noon on Aug. 15. Police say the truck was stopped after officers found it to be travelling with “improperly registered license plates.” The traffic stop led to an investigation, in which police OPP say a number of other issues were uncovered. A total of 16 offence notices were issued, police say, with eight being issued to the driver and eight to the company that owns the truck. OPP tell CTV News the offence notices were both documentation and equipment related. Offences include utilizing licence plates not authorized for the vehicle, driving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) without a valid CVOR certificate, failure to surrender driver’s licence, vehicle permit and proof of insurance, as well as operating an unsafe CMV. The licence plates were seized from the vehicle and the vehicle was towed from the location, OPP say. According to police, the vehicle was not impounded but it is not to be operated again until the issues are “properly addressed.” Police say the driver was arrested during the investigation, then released shortly after.
