Police in Barrie executed a substantial operation in the downtown area Thursday evening that involved a large raid and many arrests. It began with a large police presence in the downtown area before 9 p.m., and police acknowledged concerns about loud noises that resembled gunfire. In an email to CTV News, a police spokesperson said a warrant related to drug offences was carried out near Maple Avenue and Dunlop Street West, and confirmed that nine suspects were arrested. Police say the loud noises in the area were as a result of police raiding a building, and no firearms were discharged. The charges laid remain to be determined. Note: This is a developing story. We will provide additional updates when they become available.
