The Town of New Tecumseth says five new pedestrian crossovers, in various formats, will soon be under construction at different intersections in town. Main Street at Centre Street A concrete sidewalk with a tactile walking surface indicator, concrete curb and gutter will soon be under construction at a Main Street and Centre street in New Tecumseth. The construction will also include a pedestrian crosswalk for northbound/southbound pedestrians, streetlighting and storm sewer infrastructure. Mill Street at McCurdy Drive A similar project is on its way at Mill Street and McCurdy Drive. The town says that minor work such a tree protection fencing may be required in the area. Mill Street and McGahey Street (Turner Drive) Updated street lighting, a cross walk and restoration efforts will also take place at the intersection of Mill Street and McGahey Street. The town says similar tree protection efforts may be needed in this area as well. Queen Street south and Rogers Road An east to west crosswalk will soon be under construction in the area of Queen Street south and Rogers Road. New Tecumseth says trees in the area will likely need to be pruned and three already existing on-street parking sports will be removed, to improve sightlines for the pedestrian crossover. Boyne Street and John W Taylor Avenue A median island and an additional east to west crosswalk are expected to be installed in the area of Boyne Street at John W Taylor Avenue. Similar tree pruning efforts may be required in the area as well to help improve sightlines in the area. Construction for all five projects is slated to start on June 29 and last until Aug. 14, the town says. During the time of construction, only one lane of traffic will be open at the intersections between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
