Barrie remains one of Canada’s most expensive places to rent, even as prices continue to cool. According to Zumper’s newly released Canadian National Rent Report, the city ranked as the 8th most expensive rental market in the country last month. Stats show that median rent prices settled at $1,790 for a one-bedroom and $2,000 for a two-bedroom unit. According to Zumper, while rent in the city remains high, the data points to some relief. The median price of a one-bedroom apartment in Barrie is down 8.7 per cent, compared to this time last year. How was this all measured? The report analyzed hundreds of thousands of rental listings from the previous month across 23 of Canada’s largest cities to assess current market conditions and housing trends. Nationally, the report states that rent prices have now logged 15 consecutive months of year-over-year declines. The median one-bedroom rent across Canada fell 4.7 per cent to $1,776, while two-bedroom units dropped 5.1 per cent to $2,196.
