Some people just need a little nudge to help the needy. That’s what the Purolator Tackle Hunger® National Red Bag campaign was all about. Once Barrie residents had a red bag delivered to their doorsteps, all they had to do was fill it and leave it outside on September 19 for pick up. Easy-peasy, to the tune of more than 3,400 meals for Barrie and Springwater residents. “Our team was proud to bring the community together and help deliver the equivalent of 3,424 meals to Barrie Food Bank,” said Aaron Maynard, unit manager at Purolator Barrie. “Every filled Red Bag represents neighbours helping neighbours, and we’re grateful to everyone who made this campaign a success.” The food drive was part of Purolator’s fourth annual Purolator Tackle Hunger National Red Bag campaign. Throughout September and October, employees, customers and community members turned generosity into action through Red Bag food drives in 25 communities across Canada and the U.S. Since 2003, Purolator Tackle Hunger has delivered more than 27 million meals to food banks across Canada. “Donations from the National Red Bag campaign will make a meaningful difference for individuals and families who are facing food insecurity,” said Karen Shuh, executive director at the Barrie Food Bank. “We’re thankful to Purolator’s employees and to every resident who contributed. This support helps us keep our shelves stocked and provide nutritious food to people in our community when they need it most.”
