The province has kicked in $48,000 for New Tecumseth firefighter equipment. In mid-December, Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson, Mayor Richard Norcross and Fire Chief Dan Heydon celebrated the news of the funding at Fire Station 1 in Alliston. “This grant is an investment in safety and readiness,” said Norcross. “It’s about giving our team the tools they need to meet the challenges of a growing community. We appreciate the province’s support and the town’s dedication to firefighter safety.” The money will enable critical initiatives aimed at strengthening firefighter safety. Specifically, the grant will be used to purchase 120 certified wildland firefighting coveralls, designed for high-mobility, and protection in high-temperature environments. “Every emergency demands preparation and the right tools,” said Heydon. “These coveralls will provide the protection and flexibility our firefighters need to respond safely and effectively.” Fire protection in New Tecumseth is provided by three stations located in Alliston, Beeton, and Tottenham, with a second Alliston station scheduled for completion in late 2026.
