A former mayor of Bracebridge is being remembered for a 19-year career as the town’s head of council. The Town of Bracebridge says the death of former mayor Jim Lang was announced by his family on Monday, aged 89. After a four year stint on council, Lang served as mayor of the town from 1975 to 1994. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Lang, longtime former mayor of the Town of Bracebridge,” said current mayor Rick Maloney in a post on social media. “Jim helped guide Bracebridge through an important period in our history. He believed in building a strong community and in creating places where people could come together,” Maloney added. In his post, Maloney goes on to credit Lang for his work on the Bracebridge Falls, the Carnegie Library addition, the Centennial Centre pool and the community hall. “Perhaps one of the most lasting examples is the James D. Lang Activity Park, a permanent home for the Bracebridge Fall Fair, Pioneer Power and generations of community gatherings,” Maloney said. “On behalf of the Town of Bracebridge, I extend my sincere condolences to Jim’s family, friends and everyone who knew him,” said Maloney, adding, “thank you Jim for your leadership, your service and your love for Bracebridge.”
