Large waterspout formed on Lake Simcoe near Georgina Island

Environment Canada says a waterspout formed over Lake Simcoe during Wednesday’s storm.

The weather office says the waterspout formed near Georgina Island during a storm that pushed through the area, at around 4:20 p.m.

Officials say the waterspout had the potential to move inland, but so far no damage has been reported in the area.

It’s one of two tornadoes Environment Canada says formed during the storm. The other happened north of Lucan, a small village near London.

Officials say damage examined by engineers from Western University is consistent with that of an EF-0 tornado.
