Energy company Hydro One claims approximately $120 million dollars have been invested in Orillia since the opening of its warehouse. In March, Hydro One opened a provincial distribution warehouse in Orillia almost a year after the province was rocked by a major ice storm. According to Hydro One, the ice storm impacted more than 600,000 people across the province and 4,500 team members from 30 local distribution companies worked day and night to fix more than 6,000 broken poles and cross-arms to restore power to the area. Since then the company claims it has completed a nearly $120 million dollar investment in the city by opening up the warehouse, located right next to the company’s regional operations centre. “The completion of the new provincial distribution warehouse strengthens our ability to source, store and deliver critical equipment to crews across Ontario while supporting Ontario businesses and building a stronger, more resilient supply chain that prioritizes Ontario- and Canadian-made products,” said Lindsay Zylstra, Hyrdo One’s vice president of supply chain. The facility is 120,000 square feet and built to help crews access the equipment they need for day-to-day operations to maintain electricity grids. The company says it consolidates all operations under one roof. Between the three facilities in Orillia, the company says it employs 250 people.
