A gas leak in Georgina prompted a shelter-in-place order early Tuesday morning. Residents near Kennedy Road and Lake Drive East in the Willow Beach area were temporarily forced to stay indoors or avoid the area. York Regional police issued emergency alerts around 8:30 a.m., advising anyone within roughly 300 metres of the scene to remain at least that distance away while crews responded to the incident. Those in the immediate vicinity were told to stay put and shelter inside their homes as a precaution. Enbridge Gas crews were dispatched and according to officials, the leak was stopped within about an hour of being reported. Lake Drive East was closed in both direction from Kennedy Road as police maintained a presence in the area during the initial response. No injuries were reported, and officials have not said what caused the leak. There is no ongoing threat to public safety, as the scene has since been cleared and police have deemed it safe to return to normal activity.
