Flood response efforts continue in Orillia

Dangerous flood levels expected in the coming days in already badly hit areas.

With much of the region experiencing flooding concerns, including Orillia, crews are working around the clock to mitigate more issues.

Workers are particularly focused on the Cedar Island Road and Davey Drive area, by sandbagging, removing water and installing AquaDam flood barriers. As water levels in lakes and streams continue to rise, these measures are helping to protect homes and other infrastructure.

The City says it’s received support from volunteers with Georgian Bay Search and Rescue Team and St. John Ambulance to assist in flood strategies and efforts.

Officials assure the public drinking water is still safe and they are continuing to monitor water levels and weather conditions.

The road closures that remain in place are Forest Avenue South between Lankin Boulevard and Victoria Crescent, Cedar Island Road and Davey Drive.

The City reminds people to take extreme caution near all bodies of water, stay away from flooded areas, be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice and to call 911 for emergencies only.
