Storage barn destroyed by fire in Essa Twp.

A barn was destroyed by fire in Essa Township.

Essa Township firefighters were called to a large farm building fire in Essa Township shortly before 9 p.m. Monday night.

“It was a fully involved building fire,” said Fire Chief Doug Burgin.

Burgin said the fire destroyed a large storage building holding equipment and machinery.

Essa Fire require mutual aid from New Tecumseh Fire, Adjala-Tosorontio Fire and Clearview Fire services to douse the blaze.

Burgin said there no animals or civilians injured.

Provincial police closed the County Road 10 in both directions between County Road 21 and the 20th Sideroad and asked residents to avoid the area for about two hours.

It has since reopened.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal was not called because the cause of the fire was determined to be a block heater inside the barn and it is not considered to be suspicious.
