Sunny, hot, mid-summer weather in October? Environment Canada says get used to it. Dave Phillips said, “It even gets better, look at the weekend. The last time we had temperatures this warm on October fourth and fifth was 120 years ago.” That kind of news has many taking advantage, with people not wasting any time getting outdoors. Jane Doe said she could talk about it but not stop enjoying it. One local said, “Oh, this is the best weather, I hope it doesn’t end.” This mild weather is expected through much of the month. Not as warm as today and this weekend, but weather experts say to be ready for plenty more of the same. Local resident Pete Waltole said, “It’s summer. I like the fall. I don’t want the winter, I can do without the winter.” The extra-long summer-like stretch is good news for those with boats and golf clubs. Oak Bay Golf Club in Port Severn has been a busy place, with people still enjoying the outdoors. Jason Bennett of Oak Bay Golf Club said, “This has been a fantastic season, absolutely. We’re into October and it’s summer weather in the high 20s all weekend.” Local golfer Mike Dytnerski added, “It’s just super. It’s a bonus every time you get a round in weather like this in October.” Even Phillips admits it feels surreal. “Hey, pinch yourself, because this is something that’s quite unusual.” With the great weather expected through the month, golf courses and other outdoor facilities are hoping it sticks around as long as possible.
