The City of Barrie, UPS Canada staff, and Sora Group are set to officially break ground on a brand new UPS facility in Barrie that will be five times the size of the existing space. According a Monday news release, the building is expected to be around 103,000 square feet. It will operate 90 of those iconic, brown UPS delivery vans, to serve customers across the Barrie area and beyond. The expansion comes at a time of growing business and residential demand in the area. “Today’s groundbreaking marks the beginning of an important partnership between UPS and the City of Barrie,” said Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall in the news release. “This new facility represents a significant investment in our community and will support long-term economic growth. We’re proud to work alongside UPS as they expand their operations right here in Barrie.” The construction company, Sora Group, who has a team of builders, architects, and engineers, built a new UPS facility in Hamilton and they are ‘committed to delivering a world-class facility’ for Barrie. UPS Canada continues to grow across the country, with Barrie and the surrounding regions being a big part of that growth. “Breaking ground on our new facility in Barrie marks an exciting step forward for UPS in Canada,” said Sean Griffin, UPS Canada president. “As Barrie continues to grow, so does the need for reliable, efficient logistics—and we’re proud to be investing in the infrastructure that will support that growth. This new centre will help us better serve our customers and strengthen our network in one of Ontario’s most dynamic regions." Sora Group staff say they are fast-tracking this project and that the building is expected to be completed some time in October 2027. The official groundbreaking will be on Wednesday at 90 Salem Road.
