It was quite the feast for a group of black bears after a truckload of fruit arrived at the Bear With Us centre in Sprucedale over the weekend. The wildlife sanctuary shared photos over social media showing a bunch of their residents digging into a colourful pile of donated fruit, including berries and other sweet treats. The organization thanked Lynne and Randy for delivering the bundle for the bears in its care, with another delivery expected on Monday. “We owe a trailer load of thanks,” the organization wrote on Facebook, adding, “You two are amazing.” Bear With Us has been rehabilitating orphaned and injured black bears for more than three decades. The organization was founded by Mike McIntosh in 1992. His first resident was Mishoomish, an older blind bear that came from a zoo in eastern Ontario and remained at the sanctuary for the rest of his life. Since then, Bear With Us says it has helped more than 1,000 orphaned and injured bears across the province and beyond return to the wild. On top of rehab, the organization provides a permanent sanctuary for a small number of bears that cannot be released.
