While the worst of the weekend’s major winter storm appears to have passed through the region, some areas in Simcoe Muskoka remain under a snow squall watch. Simcoe Muskoka and the entire Windsor Corridor was under a winter storm warning this weekend according to Environment Canada, with forecasted snow accumulations of up to 35 centimetres. That warning was lifted in some areas on Sunday. However, areas between Orillia, Barrie, Midland, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood and Owen Sound remain under a snow squall watch, with up to 60 centimetres of snow possible by Tuesday. Several towns and townships across the region have declared significant weather events. Near-zero visibility conditions are still possible, therefore, the public is urged to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. The winter storm warning is expected to end in most Simcoe Muskoka areas by Sunday evening.
