With the Toronto Blue Jays first World Series appearance in 32 years sparking increased baseball interest, the Barrie Public Library (BPL) has dedicated a new section for the sport. The city’s librarians put together a new section at the Downtown location on Worsley Street with all their best reads on baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Los Angeles Dodgers and more. Library officials say it is aimed at engaging fans and setting out resources for everyone, from die-hard supporters to casual readers. “Sports brings everyone together just like libraries do,” said Luke McKee, the BPL’s community engagement manager. “I was down in Toronto when they won Game 7 (against the Mariners). Everyone rallies around it. There’s nothing but positive vibes. That’s what the library’s about as well. We support everyone in the community, so we support sports fans just as much as we support book fans.” The Jays took a 1-0 lead in the World Series after beating the Dodgers 11-4 in Friday’s Game 1.
