Barrie police looking for public’s help in identifying jewelry store smash-and-grab suspects

Barrie police are continuing their investigation into a jewelry store robbery at the Georgian Mall Tuesday evening and seeking the public’s help.

Police said they received several reports of people wearing masks smashing up jewelry display cases with hammers at Michael Hill Jewellers. The masked people allegedly fled the mall in a dark-coloured sedan.

Police are looking for anyone who was in the areas of McVeigh Drive, Cundles Road West and Leacock Drive to look through their home security, doorbell or dash camera footage from Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Authorities say they are looking for a group of four young men, in particular.

Police describe the first suspect as a man in his late 20s, thin build, roughly between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a black puffy winter coat with a logo on the upper arm, black hooded sweater with the hood up, dark grey sweatpants with rips, orange gloves, light grey running shoes and carrying a hammer and dark-coloured bag.

The second suspect is described as a man in his early 20s, thin build, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweater with the hood up, a black face covering, black sweatpants, grey running shoes, green gloves and carrying a reusable bag.

The third suspect is described as a man in his late teens to early 20s, medium build, around 6 feet tall, wearing a black hooded sweater with a large logo on the front, a black face covering, light coloured sweatpants with blue clothing showing underneath, black athletic-style shoes, green gloves and carrying a green reusable shopping bag.

Police describe the fourth suspect as a man in his late teens to early 20s, thin build, around 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweater with the hood up, black face covering and sunglasses, black sweatpants with grey clothing showing underneath, black shoes and gloves and carrying a hammer and dark-coloured bag.
